Bertha and Baby

Bertha is an 86 year old woman who lives by herself in an old house in Houston’s East End neighborhood. She uses a cane to get around and is always nervous about falling. It’s hard for Bertha to cook a hot meal which is why she is a Meals on Wheels for Greater Houston client. Bertha has never married and has no children and she is often lonely. Bertha’s dog Baby keeps her company and helps her to feel less lonely. Because of Bertha’s physical limitations, she is not always able to buy Baby the dog food she needs in order to stay healthy.

Through the aniMeals on Wheels program, Bertha and Baby receive pet food to help keep Baby’s food bowl full. Once a month, volunteers deliver pet food to Bertha and Baby’s house so Bertha doesn’t have to share her limited resources with Baby. Bertha likes seeing the volunteers who come to her house to deliver the pet food. She likes that someone is always willing to check up on her and is happy to know that someone cares about her and Baby.

It is because of your support the aniMeals on Wheels program is able to help seniors like Bertha and pets like Baby. We need your help this summer to feed all 1,110 pets in the aniMeals on Wheel program.

Pledge to sponsor a homebound senior's pet today. You can donate here.
