IM's summer 'Beat the Heat' Program is in the News

Our boardroom was full of activity today with camera crews preparing to get the best shot. We had ABC13, KHOU11, Click2Houston and Fox26 cameras all here to film their various segments on the 'Beat the Heat' program. TXU presented a $10,000 check to Meals on Wheels for Greater Houston for the program. This is the second year that MOW partnered with TXU Energy to provide heat-safety information to senior citizens.

Our own David Roberts, Director of Operations for Meals on Wheels for Greater Houston and a Nancy Starritt from our central office were their to accept the check. Afterwards with representatives from TXU, the two went with the different crews to film at several MOW clients' homes who received the 'Beat the Heat' package. The package included; a energy saving compact fluorescent light bulb, two recipes for refreshing drinks, a magnet with important ways to prevent heat exhaustion in this dangerous Texas heat and lastly a guide booklet explaining ways to save energy and stay cool during this hot summer. Packages were also provided in Spanish when needed. Read and watch the video of Fox26's story here. Read and watch the video of KHOU's story here.
