Thanksgiving Day Meals on Wheels Delivery

Every year IM’s Meals on Wheels hosts the Thanksgiving Day Meals on Wheels Delivery to ensure that home-bound seniors without nearby relatives have a traditional turkey meal on Thanksgiving Day.

Last year we served 2,500 seniors on Thanksgiving with the help of 1,200 volunteers. We give our regular staff workers for Meals on Wheels the day off to spend the day with their family so we rely heavily on our volunteers during this day. When you volunteer it is a time to give back to the less fortunate in Houston. Other than you giving your time, you will also make seniors happy because for some of our seniors you are the only person they will see this day.

What will you do as a volunteer?

As a volunteer you (and/or group) will personally deliver meals to the seniors. You should bring 2 Styrofoam size coolers, one for the hot portion of the meal and the other for the cold portion. Each driver will deliver 2-7 meals and it is estimated to take up to 2 hours, which leaves plenty enough time for you to make it back home for your Thanksgiving dinner. You can also help at the distribution site but spaces are limited so sign up soon. Bring your family and friends to help with this event and put a smile on a senior’s face. Meals will be picked up at First Presbyterian Church, 5300 Main Street, Houston, 77004, Thanksgiving morning beginning at 10am you should be able to finish up by early afternoon.

Other ways for you to give?

On Thanksgiving morning not everyone have the time to volunteer and some may be out of town for Thanksgiving. You can still help. For just $5 you can give one senior a traditional Thanksgiving meal. For more information to sign up and/or donate, visit here.
