On October 5, 2012, IM collaborated with Starbucks and Volunteer Houston for a day of service where volunteers came to help assemble pet food packets for IM’s aniMeals program and decorate holiday gift bags and cards for IM’s Meals on Wheels program. Over 1,000 volunteers came together at the George R. Brown Convention Center for this event.
Starbucks volunteers came together to pre-package bags of pet food that will be stored and delivered to clients for their pets. The pet food helps Meals on Wheels seniors with pets so they don't have to share their limited food and resources with their pet companion. And thanks to the volunteers the pet food can now be easily distributed to seniors in need.
With the holidays approaching, Meals on Wheels visits can now be even more special by providing a decorated, personalized card and gift bag for the elderly, often isolated client. The volunteers created handmade gift bags and cards from scratch using brown cardboard grocery bags. Holiday cards will also be distributed to our Meals on Wheels seniors to help brighten their day!
IM would like to send our thanks to Starbucks for partnering with us and showing support by donating their time and gifts to help improve the local Houston community.
