Never Give Up Hope-Tuesday Memo

Greetings!

I admit that I am not a big sports fan, but like most Americans I watched this past Sunday's Super Bowl. It started with an amazing video featuring cancer-survivor Michael Douglas called "The Journey" which showcased the Super Bowl as a metaphor for what makes America great: Grit, ingenuity, determination and sacrifice.

That's about it. Two teams representing old American towns that are struggling to make it back. The message is sublime; never give up hope, keep fighting and work as a team. Every team member in every sport knows that there will be highs and lows - and through shared effort and sacrifice anything is possible.

I am convinced that this is true. With a little more self-sacrifice, beyond those made by our troops in harm's way, anything is possible here in America when we are called into action and come together. I have faith in our collective spirit and I hope that our leaders have the courage to ask us to prove it.

It inspired me; I hope it touches you too.

Houston's Souper Bowl of Caring

Usually on Super Bowl Sunday you will find groups of high school students feasting on a platter of wings and partying with their friends.  But this year there are some unique teenagers organized by Interfaith Ministries’ Youth Council who are doing something extraordinary.  They are taking part in Houston’s Souper Bowl of Caring, which collects food and or money, and gives 100% of those items to fight hunger and poverty in Houston.
