One week from today IM will be on the air once again during KUHF's Spring Campaign. All day, Tuesday, April 12th when you renew or make your commitment to KUHF and forgo a "thank you" gift, KUHF uses that money to purchase meals for IM's Meals on Wheels for Greater Houston.
KUHF is a vital part of the Houston community through its efforts to promote arts and social services and through the listener supported news and music format that only KUHF provides. Tapestry Gala around the Corner!
IM's Tapestry Gala is only four weeks away - May 3rd! We are honoring two of Houston's significant leaders: Ambassador Arthur Schechter and former National Holocaust Museum Chair, Fred Zeidman. Invitations are in the mail, and you can look at one online by clicking here.
IM's Tapestry Gala is chaired by IM Board Member, Philamena Baird and her husband, Arthur. The Tapestry Gala has become one of Houston's most celebrated events and the proceeds provide critical support that makes it possible for IM to do its important work. A THOUGHT TO PONDER
With the world in turmoil and budget crises up the wazoo, I decided to take a break from it all and visit the Dallas grandkids. Most of you know that I am a worrier, something I learned from my mother, may she rest in peace. Most of the time it actually serves me well, making me sensitive to the ills in society and a bit uneasy when I see things that need fixing. But worrying too much is not a good thing. It can make one tentative and overly cautious. It's also tiring.
So a weekend with our six and three year old (who turns 4 today!) grandkids always does the trick. We went to see Toy Story 3 on Ice at a packed American Airlines Arena in the Big D. It surely didn't feel like we were in a recession - money flowed everywhere as happy parents and grandparents gobbled up $15 Buzz Lightyear Snowcones and all sorts of other memorabilia.
What struck me most of all was the incredible diversity all around. Only a few years ago the crowd would have looked mostly like me and my wife. No longer. Every shade of personhood was there - in all our glorious languages, colors and expressions.
And then the pièce de résistance; all worries gone, just bliss, and my soon to be 4 grandson jumps into my lap and says "I love you." Ah sweet love. Don't you just wish that life could be that simple all the time?
