In just 16 days, on Thursday, November 15th, the Dinner Dialogue events, the centerpiece of the new Amazing Faiths Project, will be held in various homes across Greater Houston. We set out to have 75 host homes, led by 75 trained moderators and a total of 750 people this year. As of today we have all of our host homes, almost all of our moderators and we are just a few participants shy of our goal. When we began this process we were a bit daunted by the challenges ahead, but we knew in our hearts that this project would hit a responsive chord. You still have until Tuesday, November 7th to register. After that date we will close all registration so we can inform our hosts who will be coming, and prepare all of the final details for a successful evening.I know that there are a number of you who want to do this - but just haven't found the time to go online and register. Well this is it - one week from today is all that's left. So go to http://www.amazingfaithsproject.org/and sign up. If you are unable to attend, you will still be able to register for all of the online activities and dialogues that will stretch from November 15th until next November, 2008 when we hope to host between 350 - 500 homes here in Houston and hopefully in as many as 15 - 20 other cities all over the world. The new web based social network being launched on November 16 will offer various bulletin boards, discussion groups, and opportunities to dialogue, study and maybe even act together to build trust and respect through deeper understanding. You will still be able to go to http://www.amazingfaithsproject.org/, you will just have a much deeper and richer experience when you do. Thank all of you who are taking a bit of a risk to get this movement going. Someday soon thousands upon thousands of people will be engaged in the Amazing Faiths Project - and we will all be the better for it. We are grateful to our co-operating partner, The Boniuk Center for the Study and Advancement of Religious Tolerance at Rice University and to Mayor Bill White and his outstanding staff for helping make this all a reality. Remember, Tolerance Begins at Home - and only you can make the change we all are praying for.
ANNUAL MEETING - THURSDAY, DECEMBER 6th at 6:30 pm Our 38th Annual Meeting will be held on Thursday, December 6th, 6:30 pm at St. Paul's United Methodist Church. Watch your inbox for official invitations later this week. This is going to be a very interesting meeting. Our focus will be on Meals on Wheels for Greater Houston and the strides we have made this year. We will officially launch our new Manna Group - individuals, congregations, foundations and businesses who sponsor one or more seniors for a year of service. We will announce the total number of seniors sponsored in 2007 - which (drum roll) will exceed our goal of 750 sponsored seniors - and we will announce the 2008 goal! We've all heard a lot about how "no child should be left behind" - and how important it is for every kid to have a great education. Well, it is equally true that "no senior goes hungry." This Annual Meeting will celebrate IM's efforts to assure that every senior who is eligible receives the meal he or she deserves. I think you will all be pleased to be part of this great evening. We plan to serve a real Meals on Wheels meal - the same sort we serve to over 3,300 seniors each day. The Annual Meeting will be free, but everyone will have the opportunity to donate whatever they feel is appropriate for a "typical" meal out. Seating is limited to only 300 so please sign up early. We will also award the President's and Chairman's awards to two outstanding organizations that made real impact this year on our sponsorship campaigns - our lead corporation, Chevron, and our lead congregation, St. Luke's United Methodist Church.
