National Volunteer Week - Thank You to All Our Volunteers!

National Volunteer Week was signed into being by President Nixon in 1974 as a way to recognize and celebrate the efforts of volunteers nationwide. This National Volunteer Week, IM would like to thank our volunteers for all that they do. Their selfless service enables IM to provide quality programs for seniors, refugees, women and children throughout the Houston area.

For example, IM’s Meals on Wheels program, which relies on volunteers to deliver Thanksgiving meals to homebound seniors each year, also sponsors the Friendly Visitor program, a lesser-known service that matches seniors with volunteers that visit them once a week.

However, serving our seniors is only one dimension of the amazing work IM’s volunteers do. Volunteers also teach English to our resettled refugee families, deliverpet food to the four-legged friends of our Meals on Wheels clients, help seniors prepare for natural disasters through the Disaster Buddy program, help run interfaith women’s and youth events and sponsor refugee families during their journey to America.

So, this National Volunteer Week, consider making volunteering a part of your life – the impression you make on those you help lasts a lifetime.
